The tournament is a 5 round swiss event with a time control of G/120 d5.

Top NC performer in Open Section may represent NC in 2020 Tournament of Champions in St. Louis. Representative will receive a partial travel stipend from the NCCA.

Late registration

May receive a first and/or second round 1/2 point bye, avoid this by calling/texting ahead. Yes, you can enter as late as just before rd 3 is paired.

2 1/2 Point Byes available for any 2 rounds. If you need/desire a Bye, it must be declared before round 3.
Re-entry: Free from Friday night round into Sat. morning Rd 1, continue with best score into round 2.
The tournament is open to all players ages 50 and over by the end of 2019 from any state.
A USCF membership is required (obtain in advance at www.uschess.org ) and NC residents must have an NCCA membership (obtain in advance at NCCA membership ).
The tournament will follow the rules set by the United States Chess Federation.

Unrated competitors

Unrated competitors will play in a section at the TD's discretion. They might be allowed entry to the bottom section.
They will not enter the top section without proof of ability to compete in that section.
Such as a rating from another federation or a pretournament blitz game.

Senior Open: $250 - $100; U1800: $75 : Plaque and NC Wine to top NC resident
NC winner of Senior Open section may represent NC at the 2020 National Senior Tournament of Champions in St. Louis and after accepting will receive $250 to assist with travel expenses.
Senior Under 1600: $200 - $100; U1400 $50; U1200 $50 : Plaque and NC Wine to top NC resident
