So you think you can play Chess, then play the God of War: Ares. Ares Chess is a strong Chess program designed to play more human like than other Chess programs. As such, it should be more suitable for game analysis and match/tournament preparation. During the 2010 World Chess Championships, Ares predicted numerous moves that were played and missed by other programs. Testers commented Ares Chess is more enjoyable to play than many other programs due to its playing style. Ares Chess supports various features for play and analysis:
  • Full tackback
  • Hint / display thinking
  • Permanent brain / Pondering / Think on opponent's time
  • Multiple time controls: time per game, time per move, depth per move
  • Analyze moves / infinite analysis

Ares Chess works with any Chess GUI (Graphical User Interface) that supports the UCI (Universal Chess Interface) protocol. As such, it works with several UCI GUIs on the PC. Several of these GUIs are free and some you may already have:

Install Instructions
Arena:
  1. Download Ares Chess zip file and uncompress it on your Desktop.
  2. Load Arena.
  3. Click Engine, click Install New Engine... .
  4. Browse to your desktop and click on Ares1-005-2.exe
  5. Select UCI and click OK and click Yes for the Start Engine window that comes next.
  6. Click Engine, click Manage.
  7. Click on the details tab, select Ares
  8. For "Type" (below Country) select UCI,then press Apply
  9. Click OK.
SCID:
  1. Download Ares Chess zip file and uncompress it on your Desktop.
  2. Load SCID.
  3. Click Tools then Click Analysis Engine.
  4. When the Analysis Engine List window appears, click New...
  5. For Name, type Ares Chess 1.005.2. For Command, click "..." and browse to your desktop and click on Ares1-005-2.exe.
  6. Click Update, click OK.
  7. Highlight Ares 1.005.2 in the Analysis Engine List and click OK.
Fritz, Rybka, Junior, Shredder, ZapChess, Chessbase:
  1. Download Ares Chess zip file and uncompress it on your Desktop.
  2. Load the Chessbase.com product.
  3. Click Engine then click create UCI engine.
  4. When the Set up UCI Engine window appears, click Browse.
  5. Browse to your desktop and click on Ares1-005-2.exe
  6. On the Set up UCI Engine window, click OK.
  7. Click Engine, then click Change Main Engine...
  8. In the Load engine window, select Ares 1.005.2 then click OK.
Chess Partner:
  1. Download Ares Chess zip file and uncompress it on your Desktop.
  2. Load the ChessPartner.
  3. Click on Extra -> Engine Import wizard.
  4. Browse to your desktop and click on Ares1-005-2.exe
  5. In the next dialog give the engine a name - Ares1-005.2.
  6. Finish the wizard.
  7. Select Ares 1.005.2 from the engine menu.
